Well it looks like I'll be spending my holidays [which were my intensions any-way] doing a massive cleaning.

TO MY HORROR and embarrassment!!!!!!! Dakota has fleas. I spotted two on her last night.
My poor little baby has fleas. WTF?!? She's an indoor cat!

This perplexes me. Squicks me out! Annoys the fuck out of me. And makes me feel like the horriblest mother pet owner on the planet!!!!!

Dakota is a really pretty eight year old long-hair Hymalain-cross. to me anyway
Dakota is afraid of her own shadow. but is getting better
Dakota is an indoor cat who's never set foot outside in her life. Except to be transported to the v.e.t. and that's always in a carrier
Dakota is only brave enough to scoot out into the hall when I open the apartment door. would there be fleas out there in the carpet?
Dakkota is constantly getting knots in her fur.she hates being combed. Oy.
Dakota hates being cuddled or petted. unless it's on her terms
Dakota is a feisty little hairball and jumps at every opportunity to bite and scratch until she draws blood. which I'm thinking there will be much of tonight when I apply flea killing stuff

Can someone tell me: WHERE THE HELL DID SHE GET THE FLEAS FROM!?!?!?!

Anybody have any tried and true methods of applying flea medicine / treating cats for fleas?

crashcat I'm lookin' at you girlie.

You got mouses? Mouses got fleas! Lovey got fleas one time after she got trapped in the wall (don't ask...my former landlord was a dumbtard), from the mouses. Either that or my neighbors' cat had fleas, which got into the wall. Our whole building actually had to be bug-bombed. It was nas-tah.

Also (and I don't want to squick you anymore than you already are), fleas carry tapeworms, so watch her butt for rice-sized, urm, wiggly things. Lovey had them, and it was no biggie. Two pills down the gullet, and they were gone. Kitties are hearty. Your little Dakota will be fine!

::wails:: I don't wanna look that closely at Dakota's butt!!!
::wibble:: But I suppose I should check that out too.
*argh* My poor little munchkin! She's gonna want a new mom after all this.
Would you know what kind of pills and can they be taken when she's just been glooked up with that Advantage oil?

Nah, this happens all the time--you're a great mom. Cats get fleas and tapeworms, and worse, all, all the time. The question is, do you take care of it? And see! You are! Which makes you a good mom.

But if she has enough fleas that you're getting bites, then you do need to check her butt occasionally, and look at the places she's sleeping. Tapeworms are easy peasy to get rid of, but grossss, gross, even to me, with years of pet store employee under my belt and the de-sensitizing that comes with that. On her butt, the little ricy things may be wriggly, but on the areas where she sleeps, they'll just look like rice.

The pills are from the vet, or a shot, and really, my girl Harley used to try to kill me when giving her pills, so I thought it was well worth the money to have them give her the shot--paying that vet bill saved lots on my medical bill, you know?

Ahhh tapeworms. I remember them well. My personal version of Fear Factor.

*blech!* I'm going to go have a look at the other end of my kitty now. ::shudder::
You KNOW I'm hoping she's 'rice' free!
