Well it looks like I'll be spending my holidays [which were my intensions any-way] doing a massive cleaning.

TO MY HORROR and embarrassment!!!!!!! Dakota has fleas. I spotted two on her last night.
My poor little baby has fleas. WTF?!? She's an indoor cat!

This perplexes me. Squicks me out! Annoys the fuck out of me. And makes me feel like the horriblest mother pet owner on the planet!!!!!

Dakota is a really pretty eight year old long-hair Hymalain-cross. to me anyway
Dakota is afraid of her own shadow. but is getting better
Dakota is an indoor cat who's never set foot outside in her life. Except to be transported to the v.e.t. and that's always in a carrier
Dakota is only brave enough to scoot out into the hall when I open the apartment door. would there be fleas out there in the carpet?
Dakkota is constantly getting knots in her fur.she hates being combed. Oy.
Dakota hates being cuddled or petted. unless it's on her terms
Dakota is a feisty little hairball and jumps at every opportunity to bite and scratch until she draws blood. which I'm thinking there will be much of tonight when I apply flea killing stuff

Can someone tell me: WHERE THE HELL DID SHE GET THE FLEAS FROM!?!?!?!

Anybody have any tried and true methods of applying flea medicine / treating cats for fleas?

crashcat I'm lookin' at you girlie.

Oooh, the poor darling. Advantage works great though.

Have fun vacuuming! ;-)

*ack!!* I feel horrible about this! My widdle sweedie!!

I have hardwood floors and don't own a vacuum. I'm a wicked broomer (or is that sweeper?)
I guess a dustbuster will do for the furniture, right?

A dustbuster would be fine for furniture. What you might want to do too is put a flea collar in the garbage can that you empty the dustbuster receptacle into. That way, any you suck up will meet their demise in the can, rather than hopping out to further annoy you. It's sort of overkill if you're already putting the liquid on Dakota, but I say the only good flea is a dead flea, so ATTACK from all sides! Ack, speaking of which, have you gotten any bites? The little buggers LOVE ankles!

Also, massively shake out the broom into the garbage each time you sweep... and on second thought, since you will be just sweeping (vs vacuuming), the collar in the can is a really good plan. In that case, you can use Hartz (or any brand really). The only time I'd use it is NOT on an animal.

Would one of those swiffer mop-broom thingamabobbers work better than a broom. You actually throw the sweepie bit out. Whaddayouthink?

First of all, LMAO @ 'swiffer mop-broom thingamabobbers'! You kill me, lol. I'm not sure if it's true, but there are rumours floating around that whatever stuff is on the thingamabobber that helps it pick up the dirt so well, that that can cause illness in pets. No clue if that's true, but you may not want to test out the theory on Dakota *ack* Anybody know anything about this rumour?

Yikes! I forgot about that. There are claims of them having anti-freeze in them. *meep*

Gonna buy a new broom when I get that dust buster.

The ankles should have been my alarm bell damn it! I still feel stupid and neglectful about this. I'm thinking she's had them for a while and I've just been too preoccupied to stop and notice. And that's no excuse. She looked good this morning when I left, I don't think the chemicals in the Advantage is going to kill her (which worried me). I guess I just sit and wait for her to stop scratching.
die you little bastards! Die!!

How you doing? How's Crash?!?!?! ::big hugs::

No more beating yourself up, Missy! You would totally not expect to see fleas on Dakota, so of course it wouldn't occur to you that they had invaded! We'll hear no more of that - I asked Dakota herself, and she says, "I love my Mummy - she coos to me, and loves me, and feeds me crunchies, and loves me, and gives me shoe boxes, and loves me." End quote :)
Crash is doing better today, thank you for asking! I'm doing better too :) Will email with details... **big hugs back atcha**
