Well it looks like I'll be spending my holidays [which were my intensions any-way] doing a massive cleaning.

TO MY HORROR and embarrassment!!!!!!! Dakota has fleas. I spotted two on her last night.
My poor little baby has fleas. WTF?!? She's an indoor cat!

This perplexes me. Squicks me out! Annoys the fuck out of me. And makes me feel like the horriblest mother pet owner on the planet!!!!!

Dakota is a really pretty eight year old long-hair Hymalain-cross. to me anyway
Dakota is afraid of her own shadow. but is getting better
Dakota is an indoor cat who's never set foot outside in her life. Except to be transported to the v.e.t. and that's always in a carrier
Dakota is only brave enough to scoot out into the hall when I open the apartment door. would there be fleas out there in the carpet?
Dakkota is constantly getting knots in her fur.she hates being combed. Oy.
Dakota hates being cuddled or petted. unless it's on her terms
Dakota is a feisty little hairball and jumps at every opportunity to bite and scratch until she draws blood. which I'm thinking there will be much of tonight when I apply flea killing stuff

Can someone tell me: WHERE THE HELL DID SHE GET THE FLEAS FROM!?!?!?!

Anybody have any tried and true methods of applying flea medicine / treating cats for fleas?

crashcat I'm lookin' at you girlie.

Answers, in order: Yes. Not instant, but, say, a day? See previous (and you might not see them--if she doesn't have a bazillion--they're pretty small). Advantage is at the nicer pet stores, but again, my trust is low--I'd call the vet and ask what they recommend in that area (plus you might have different brands, being a different country and all--just ask for the flea stuff that you drop on the back of their neck, that lasts a month). No prescription necessary, and you don't have to take her in.

If she had fleas really, really badly, what you'd be seeing, more so than the fleas, is little, reddish-brown specks of 'flea dirt' everywhere that she sleeps. Yes, that's exactly what it sounds like, and exactly as gross as it sounds. You'd notice it, I think. So I'm thinking this is a very light case, and shouldn't be too much trouble to clear up.
