Are there any Photoshoppers out there that can answer a couple of questions?

I just scanned a whack of 4"x6" photos at 600 dpi.
They were saved as TGAs.
I just open 1/2 a dozen and in [image size] they are all now 52"x35" and 72 dpi.

What went wrong?!

heeeeeeeeelp.

If you are opening them in internet explorer, IE's displays everything at 72 dpi, which would make the image look huge. If that's the case, you may want to try to open the pictures in some other program, anything from Paint to Photoshop, in order to have more control over the display resolution.

*smidges you* Thanks so much for commenting.

I'm opening the images in Photoshop and their not 4x6 anymore or the 600 dpi I want.

I need them at the higher dpi for printing purposes. :o(

Is the quality going to be just as good at this 72 setting when I scale them down to 4x6?
I don't get the math on that if it is.

Arrrgh! I'm going to scrap them all and start over again I think and save them as PSDs instead of the Targas.

::weeps at the amount of work to redo::
